Introduction:

Shreya Sahu, a 16-year-old resident of Sarubeda village in Ramgarh district, was initially reserved and hesitant to express herself. Living in a family of six, Shreya's father runs a hotel business to support the household expenses, while her mother manages the home. Despite her family's modest means, Shreya prioritized her education, attending Public High School in Kujju.

Background:

Before her involvement in the project, Shreya faced challenges in communicating her thoughts and feelings, often feeling anxious in social situations. She primarily focused on domestic chores and had a limited social circle, comprising just two close friends.

Project Participation:

Upon joining the project, Shreya's journey of transformation began. Engaging actively with her Girls Power Adolescent Group in Sarubeda, she embraced various sessions and activities, including regular group meetings, federation gatherings, and skill-building workshops. These sessions covered topics ranging from child rights and child marriage to lead poisoning awareness and emotional well-being.

Impact and Changes:

Shreya's participation in the project sparked a remarkable evolution in her demeanor and outlook. She gradually shed her inhibitions, becoming more vocal about menstruation and issues related to child rights. Empowered by newfound knowledge and camaraderie, Shreya started advocating against violence and other social injustices in her community.

Key Outcomes:

Through her journey, Shreya emerged as a beacon of change within her peer group. She expanded her social network, fostered deeper connections with her friends, and gained confidence in expressing her emotions openly. Additionally, Shreya actively encouraged other adolescent girls to join the group, fostering a supportive environment for collective growth and empowerment.

Shreya Sahu's transformation from a timid adolescent to a confident advocate for change exemplifies the transformative power of community engagement and empowerment initiatives.
